2Z Medical's Zzoma Positional Sleep Device Now Available on First Nation's FSS Government Contract, Expanding Access to Veterans with Positional OSA
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – January 28, 2025 – Sleep Specialists, LLC (DBA 2Z Medical), the manufacturer of the FDA-cleared Zzoma Positional Sleeper for the treatment of mild to moderate positional obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), today announced that Zzoma has been added to First Nation’s Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) Government contract. This addition will make it easier for VA sleep centers and veterans to access Zzoma for the treatment of positional OSA.
Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious health concern impacting millions of Americans, and it is particularly prevalent among veterans. Studies indicate that veterans have a significantly higher risk of developing OSA than the general population, with estimates suggesting that over 50% of veterans may be affected. This is likely due to a combination of factors, including service-related injuries, PTSD, and exposure to environmental toxins.
Zzoma is an FDA-cleared positional therapy device indicated for the first-line treatment of mild to moderate positional OSA, or for patients with CPAP intolerance. By promoting side sleeping, Zzoma helps maintain an open airway and improve sleep quality. The Zzoma device distributed by First Nation is proudly made in the USA.
“The addition of Zzoma on First Nation’s FSS contract is an important milestone and demonstrates the growing recognition and trust that sleep specialists within the VA have in Zzoma as an effective and comfortable treatment option for their patients experiencing mild to moderate positional OSA,” said Michael J. Markus, PhD, Executive Director at Sleep Specialists, LLC. “Historically, tens of thousands of Zzoma’s have been scripted by VA physicians and we are proud to collaborate with these dedicated healthcare professionals to offer patients a non-invasive, patient-preferred alternative to CPAP.”
Zzoma offers several advantages over traditional CPAP therapy, including:
- Non-invasive: Zzoma gently guides sleepers into healthier sleep positions without the need for masks or hoses.
- Comfortable and user-friendly: Patients simply wear a small, lightweight device on their back while they sleep.
- Clinically proven effectiveness: Zzoma has been shown to be as effective as CPAP in treating mild to moderate OSA.
“The Zzoma device has proven to be a front line option for many clinicians to use for sleep apnea patients in need of therapy. Our exclusive partnership allows us even more ability to grow their product line within the VA. It will mean not only a closer alignment of our two companies, but also the ability for more Veterans to be treated by therapy and still reinforce the options sleep physicians are going to have in their arsenal to treat OSA”, said Glenn Munroe, Executive Vice President, Operations.
Through this expanded partnership, 2Z Medical and First Nation will continue to collaborate to ensure clinicians can prescribe Zzoma as a first-line therapy or as an alternative for patients who cannot adjust to other traditional sleep therapies.
